弥勒菩薩、古代エジプト ヌト神、赤子の手などを参考にした手の造形に、ブルーシートの皮膚を纏った作品。高さ４メートル程ある物体の視覚的な重量感をなくすため、水面への接触点が極限まで小さく設計された。作品に使用されたブルーシートはその耐候性の高さや安価なことから災害現場や土木工事現場で多用されるため、日本人にとって身近な素材である。水害や土砂崩れの被災地で、むき出しになった山肌や崩れかけた家屋の屋根に張られた鮮やかな青色は、私たちが立つ地盤と人間自身の脆さの象徴であると同時に、壊れては建て、失われては生み出す人間の営みのたくましさを表すように思えた。天から差し出された大きな手は、自然の脅威を眼の前にした人間の強さと弱さを表したものであり、破壊と再生のシンボルでもある。

The motif for this work are the gesture found in ancient Egyptian goddess Nut, who is a visualization of night sky, and also in Japanese Buddhist figure with its round and delicate forms. To embody artist’s idea of strength and fragility of human body, the work has large volume and dynamism, yet shows lightness and frailty. Its surface is made by blue tarp, which is often found in construction sites or disaster areas, originally made to temporary protect objects from weathering. With this material as the sculpture’s skin, the work symbolizes encounter between human and nature, also destruction and creation.It is made specifically for water sites. Its reflection on water surface expands the work’s sphere. It emphasizes subtleness of the touching point, hence gives tension between object and viewer.
